The beginning of the Cold War was a time of great division and wariness. But more than that, it was a time of much confrontation and blame shifting, with both the USA and the USSR accusing each other of unjustified aggression, and both the USA and the USSR claiming to be innocent parties reacting against the aggressive “other”.

Different theories attempting to explain the origins of the Cold War are still being thrown up, even now, almost 20 years after its passing, with scholars learning from each other every day.

Your tasks are firstly, to empathize with the views of the scholars you learn from; secondly, be able to clearly explain their point of view; thirdly make up your mind which view or views make the most sense.

To do that you will be given much information about the events of the Cold War, multiple views about its origins, and a project where you will discuss with your friends and attempt to come to a consensus, as well as sample questions from past examinations on this topic.
